About Hold The Line Coalition

We are a diverse, non-partisan coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to preserving a livable South Florida by protecting green space, limiting sprawl, and encouraging smart development.

These goals are achieved by directing growth inside the Urban Development Boundary, aka “The Line”, and prioritizing public investments into existing local neighborhoods.

Hold The Line's Mission

HTL’s mission is to prevent urban sprawl in Miami-Dade County, to keep living affordable, preserve natural and agricultural land, protect the region’s surface and groundwater, and advocate for allocating public resources to meet the needs of residents in existing communities. We seek to accomplish these goals through public education and engagement to build support for  investments in land preservation, public transit, blue-green infrastructure, affordable housing, and agriculture.

At the intersection of these issues are complex decisions and tradeoffs about what to with Miami-Dade County’s limited land. The strongest policy we have to prudently balance important tradeoffs is to maintain the Urban Development Boundary, or “The Line”.

Strengthen and preserve the green agricultural and natural wetlands buffer around Miami’s urban areas to maintain ecosystem services and enhance climate resilience.

Build a representative, diverse coalition to mobilize residents and thought leaders to influence the comprehensive planning process. Educate local elected officials, community leaders, and the public about the critical importance of smart growth and land management to keep Miami-Dade resilient, affordable, and innovative.

Increase community knowledge, communications capacity, and participation in community planning decisions to promote the public interest and community priorities.
